How to Safely Replace a Flat Tire

Here are tips for safely replacing a flat tire.

  1. Start by getting the vehicle to a flat surface. If on the side of the highway, place safety triangles or rad flares out to alert other drivers.
  2. Loosen the lugs on the flat tire before doing anything else.
  3. Jack up the car high enough so that tire comes off the surface of the ground.
  4. Use the lug wrench and remove all of the lugs and pull the tire out of the wheel well and place off to the side.
  5. Place the spare tire on the wheel bolts, and hand tighten all the lug nuts. Using the lug wrench, tighten the lugs only until the tire is snug.
  6. Lower the car, now tighten the lugs in the appropriate sequence and put away all your tools.

Bring the car to our service center here at Dave Syverson Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram so we can replace that spare tire with a new one for you.
